The Standard Hotel Rooftop Bar

The Rooftop bar at The Standard Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

Downtown Los Angeles has a ton of cool spots to check out. It has inspired me to do a series on the best bars in Los Angeles. I have decided to start with The rooftop bar at the Standard because I like it so much. When you first walk in you walk in through the hotel lobby and it is filled with interesting people and art. The last time I went the girl at the front desk was dressed in what looked to be a 50's stewardess outfit. She looked very clean with not one hair out of place. I looked back to see if Wally or the beaver were behind me, she was straight out of the 1950's.

The Decor at The Standard

The Decor at the Standard is very unique it is retro hip and full of sexual implications. Right next to the lobby of the hotel is a pool table where people like to hangout and shoot a little stick and have drinks. Adjacent to the pool table is a restaurant where you can get the drinks. As you turn the corner and go up the escalator you get to the elevator that takes you to the roof.

The hotel just added a beer garden off to the left of the elevator but I don't know if that will last long or if it is something seasonal. The bar is located to the right of the elevator and is a small but cool. As soon as you step out of the elevator you are taken away by the views. I quickly found out who has the worst office in Los Angeles. The adjacent buildings had people whose offices looked over the bar. All day at work they have to watch people enjoying themselves, that's a tough pill to swallow. The prices are reasonable for LA and they have a food menu also. They had a small dance floor up and were playing house music which gave it that cool LA Vibe. The dress code is casual during the day but I would call if you are going at night. The rooftop bar at The Standard Hotel in Los Angeles definitely gets my vote for one of the best bars in Los Angeles.
