Sleep is divided into two main types, REM (rapid-eye-movement) and NREM (non-REM); each recurs cyclically several times during a normal period of sleep. REM sleep is characterized by increased neuronal activity of the forebrain and midbrain, by depressed muscle tone, and by dreaming , rapid eye movements, and vascular congestion of the sex organs. Sleep aid addiction is a dangerous chemical addiction. Sleep aid dependency is a process where a patient takes a sleeping pill for a while, is not chemically addicted, but psychologically cannot sleep without taking the pill each night again. Sleeping position has a big role why sleep apnea happens. It is important to have someone who can tell you what position you sleep the best in or get the best rest. Many clinics are designed to monitor your sleep at night and diagnose any sleeping issues you may have like sleep apnea.
Sleep inducing medications, especially when taken over long periods of time, stay in the bloodstream, giving a hangover the next day and beyond, impairing memory and performance on the job and at home. All medications interact with other medications to one degree or another, sometimes with harmful effects. Never take any sleep medications that you obtain from anyone other than a doctor. I am not a fan of sleep medication but if you do decide to take it make sure to not leave out any information on any other medication you take, regardless if it is over the counter. Overall I would suggest really thinking about taking sleeping pills it is better to do without but sometimes they are necessary.
