How To Make a Caipirinha

The Caipirinha is a terrific drink that originates in Brazil. It is similar to the Cuban Mojito and come to think of it you would think the caipirinha would come from Cuba also. This would be due to all of the sugar cane fields in Cuba. Let's get to the recipe I can see you are getting thirsty and this is a very refreshing drink.

  • 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar
  • 1 lime cut it into 8 wedges so you can muddle them.
  • 2 1/2 ounces of Cachaca. Cachaca is a liquour made in Brazil and it's made from sugar cane juice.

Steps to making The Caipirinha

  • Take the sugar and the wedges and toss into a glass and muddle them together. You will need a muddler for this it looks similar to a rolling pin.
  • After you are done muddling fill the glass with ice.
  • Next pour in the 2 1/2 ounces of cachaca. If you live in the United States and are looking for Cachaca the brand you will more than likely find is Leblon.
  • Make sure to stir it up really well and you are good to go.

If you like you can add a little mint to it but you can cause some controversy between the Brazilians at your next party.
