Behavioral Interview Questions

With so many companies electing to ask behavioral interview questions, rather than more traditional interview questions, it is no wonder that the internet search engines, are blazing for more information on the subject. Behavioral Interviewing is becoming more and more common. What is Behavioral Interviewing and why is it popular? Behavioral Interviewing is a style of interviewing in which you are asked about situations in the past. The reasoning behind behavioral questions is that experts believe you will be much more likely to act in the same manner, if put in a similiar situation. If an employer asks you about how you reacted to an argument at work and your reaction was you belted the guy, the employer assumes you will react in the same manner.
Sample behavioral interview questions-
Tell me about a time you diffused a situation at work?
Tell me about a time you lead a team in a project?
Tell me about a particular goal you set and how you achieved it?
Can you tell me a time in which you provided a customer with exceptional service?
You want to be ready for these types of questions and you want to be able to account for every question with a great answer. This is essential in showing you have great interviewing skills. A great tool for this is called the S.T.A.R. method. I like to call it the Super Star Method.
Situation or Task- Action you took and Results Achieved= STAR Method.
When you are asked all the questions from above you want to use this method.Let us take the question from above, involving the time you diffused a situation at work.
Situation/Task- Two co-workers were arguing over details on a project and the deadline was in one week..
Action- You spoke with your co-workers and you explained how important the project was in securing a new account.
Results- Your co-workers agreed and decided to work together, as a result your project went terrific and you signed the new account.
Using the STAR technique will lead to success when answering behavioral interview questions. It is essential in answering questions in detail and landing the job.
