Search Engine Basics

In Today's day and age Google accounts for a majority of all search engine related traffic. Let's say you are looking up the question How dangerous is asbestos? You will get 8 million plus results and Google ranks all those pages in a particular order. Search engines decide how and why they will rank orders in a particular order. If you do google that question you will see that I was lucky enough to rank on the first page.

When search engines start to search they first look for exact words or exact phrases I should say. Then search engines look for words that are related to your search. So if you are writing about small birds then you should include the phrase small birds. Then you want to go further and include phrases that are close to small birds or synonymous. Examples of these would be birdie, fowl or chick, you should include these words in your bird article.

Top Search Engines

1. Google is still on top

The Rest Yahoo, Bing, Aol, Etc

To give you an idea of how search engine classify their information here is a link below to Yahoo's directory. I guess the way you can look at it is the internet is a big book and it is divided into different categories and the directory is a list of those categories.

I have decided to an entire series on Search Engine Optimization and create a blog mainly full of hubs that will cover this topic. Once I have written enough hubs I will link the page to my user profile so whomever is interestet can access them all in one place. Below I have included a link on how to use google's keyword tool which is a great thing to know when studying search engine optimization. Best of luck to you gaining traffic to your articles or websites!
